Two new cases of COVID-19 within the Elizabethtown School District has the Middle and High School closing for two days, according to the district website.
One of the cases was a confirmed positive case, while the other was a presumptive positive case at the high school, the district said.
Based on the Department of Health’s “when to close a school” guidance and the recommendation of the school physician, the middle and high schools will move to online learning for Monday and Tuesday, the district said.
This means all extracurricular activities, including athletic events, will be postponed on Monday and could continue to Tuesday. The district aims to resume extracurriculars on Tuesday depending on the results of the testing and contact tracing.
All in-person instruction at the district’s other schools will continue as planned on Monday.
“This decision was not made lightly,” the district said.
The factors involved in making the decision included the volume of contact tracing required by the most recent cases, the total number of cases at the secondary level, a spike in cases at the county level and a spike in cases within the zip code of the school district.
In all, 16 cases have been reported within the district, including six at the high school and three at the middle school, according to the district’s COVID-19 case dashboard.
“Once again, we
